Now-former FC Barcelona goalkeeper Arnau Tenas has joined Paris Saint-Germain as officially announced by the Ligue 1 giants on Sunday.
The Catalan had been with Barca since he was nine years of age, progressing from their La Masia academy to the fringes of Xavi Hernandez’s senior side.
This summer, however, his contract had been allowed to expire prompting him to test free agency.
PSG used their social media account to announce sealing the shotstopper, and also published a statement regarding the development.
Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the signing of Arnau Tenas. The 22-year-old goalkeeper has signed a contract until 2026 with the club,” began the correspondence from the Qatari-owned outfit.
“Born in Vic in the province of Barcelona in Spain in May 2001, Arnau Tenas joined FC Barcelona in 2010 to begin his training there.
“The promising goalkeeper has risen through the ranks to establish himself as a part of the Barca reserve team, of which he was the captain during last season. From the 2020-2021 season, he was regularly called up to the first team,” PSG further added.
PSG noted Tenas’ achievements such as him being the starting goalkeeper for Spain’s win at the U19 Euros in 2019 and starring at the U21 Euros this summer where his country lost to England on penalties in the final.
There was also a comment from Tenas, who said that he was “very happy to join this great club and to be part of the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeping family”.
“Very good goalkeepers have marked the history of PSG,” Tenas added, offering his thoughts to Sergio Rico who suffered a serious head injury during a horse-related accident in late May.
After failing to unsettle Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena at Camp Nou, and make a single La Liga appearance in Blaugrana, Tenas will now attempt to push Italy Gianluigi Donnarumma out of the picture under compatriot Luis Enrique.
Tenas joins PSG at a time when Ousmane Dembele is being linked with a switch to the Parc des Princes.
Before the weekend, RMC Sport in France reported that the Parisians were ready to trigger his €50 million ($55 million) release clause which doubles on August 1.
